Size 2 hook

chain 7 inches (or whatever you need in width to cover your checkbook cover, plus about 1/2 inch), chain 1, turn

Row 1: sc in each chain across, chain 1, turn

Rows 2-7: repeat row 1 (will be sewn in to form pocket) (make extra rows for deeper pockets)

Row 8: ch 1, turn, sc back loop only

Row 9: ch 1, turn, hdc front loop only

Repeat rows 8 and 9 to length of outside of checkbook

Last 6 rows: sc

Whipstitch sc to outside to form pockets for checkbook cover.

This pattern looks nice with a gradiation of a color family. Three or four shades of blude, or green, or rose, for example. Change colors after a row of sc BLO, it looks nicer (makes a hills-into-the-distance effect).
