Icicle Ornaments

My son requested icicles on the Christmas Tree, so I sat in the car and invented these:

Christmas yarn (white, or white with silver or gold thread worked in it)

"F" hook

Chain 32 (or any number divisible by 3, plus 2)

Note: Rather than picking up two threads of the chain, pick up only that one thread closest to you. It makes the icicle curl consistently.

3dc in 2nd chain from end, 3 dc in next 9 chains

3 hdc in each of next 10 ch's

3 sc in each of remaining ch's

Put a hanging hook in top (fat part) of icicle. If the icicle doesn't hang well, chain a few extra at the small end of the icicle, and put a clear crystal bead or two on it. It looks like a "drip" from the icicle.

I made these with crochet thread (size 10) and a size 7 hook, and they were about 3" long. DH wants 5-7 inches long, so I'll chain more and use a larger hook. The only trick is to split the chain into approximate thirds, and decrease the size as you go along.
